Effects of Binaural Beat Stimulation in Adults with Stuttering
In this study, adults who stutter and fluent controls were compared using EEG, ECG, and speech analysis during binaural beat stimulation. Disfluency dropped significantly in the stuttering group, with linked EEG β-band changes.
Abstract summary
Six adults who stutter and six fluent controls participated in sessions with binaural beat stimulation. In this study, disfluency measures decreased significantly after stimulation in the stuttering group, with associated changes in EEG β-band activity in left frontotemporal regions. ECG was collected concurrently for autonomic context.
Key findings
- Significant reduction in disfluency post-stimulation in the stuttering cohort in this study
- EEG β-band changes localized to left frontotemporal cortex
- Concurrent ECG and speech analysis multi-modal protocol
Related projects
- Related wearable and biomedical engineering work appears in the project case studies.
My contribution
Co-authored the experimental design, built the EEG and ECG acquisition and analysis pipeline, handled speech signal processing, and helped interpret the link between β-band changes and fluency outcomes during binaural beat stimulation sessions.
